Millwall midfielder Ryan Woods believes his side still have a 'real chance' of making the play-off places come the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has played every league game for the Lions since his arrival in January, on a season-long loan deal from Stoke City.

The SE16 side currently occupy 10th place in the Championship table, with 51 points from their 36 league games. With ten games to go, the Lions are five points short of the play-offs.

They also have a favourable run-in compared to other teams in the division, as they come up against four relegation threatened sides before the end of the season.

Speaking to News at Den, Woods said that despite their proximity to the top-six, the side do not have a set points target they are aiming for.

"We've given ourselves a real chance so why not have a proper go for these last games of the season and see where it takes us," the midfielder said.

"A lot of people wouldn't have expected us to be where we are at this time in the season, especially after last year. The lads have done the majority of the work and I've come in to help out as much as possible."

Last season, Millwall narrowly avoided relegation back to League One, finishing just one place and four points above the bottom three.

The Lions have compounded their pre-season critics this term with their league position, and that in large part has been down to the turnaround in the club's fortunes since Gary Rowett took charge in October.

However, they have won just once in their last eight league games. Woods is hoping that the squad can show what they are capable of in their final ten matches of the season.

"We've put ourselves in a good position, it's down to us as a group to see how far we can get ourselves," he added.

The Verdict

Millwall are still within touching distance of the play-off places, and the south London side find themselves in a respectable position with just ten games left to play.

The Lions come up against Charlton, Barnsley and Huddersfield between now and the end of the season, which are a favourable set of fixtures to say the least.

However, there are many teams also in the race, so Millwall have to focus on trying to put a good run of results together.
