Ryan Tunnicliffe has said that Luton's 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the weekend shows that the side have "picked up" in their performances, as the Hatters registered their first away victory since September.

The midfielder proved to be the match winner at the Riverside Stadium, scoring his first goal for the club with 17 minutes on the clock, stroking a neat finish into the bottom-left corner from inside the penalty area.

The result saw Luton pick up back-to-back wins in the Championship for the first time since August, and end their run of eleven consecutive away defeats.

Tunnicliffe, who has started 30 of Luton's 33 games this season, said that an away win was in the club's sights.

“It has been coming, but you can say that every week. If you don't win, then it still keeps coming. But to come here [Middlesbrough] and win at a place like this is a massive boost for everyone," he told the club's official website.

“I think we have picked up performance wise, we’ve been playing a lot better and we’ve been competitive, especially away from home."

The result moved the Hatters onto 30 points, now just four from safety. The 27-year-old added that the side's recent results shows that they are going in the right direction.

“I think that the result speaks for itself. It’s a tough league, it’s three very good teams that we’ve played and obviously we played [on] Wednesday [against Sheffield Wednesday] which is not a big turnaround," he said.

Luton Town's next test is a trip to The Valley to face Charlton Athletic, who they defeated 2-1 at Kenilworth Road back in November.

The Verdict

Luton have proven people wrong this week, and put in two good performances against Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday respectively, getting two wins and two clean sheets in as many games.

Criticism has been levelled Tunnicliffe's way in recent weeks by Hatters fans, as Graeme Jones has been keen to consistently select him as part of the starting XI.

However, his goal and performance at the weekend shows that he has a lot to offer the Hatters.
