Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe has admitted that he is not focusing primarily on potential incomings ahead of the January transfer window.

Lowe was appointed as the Lilywhites' new boss yesterday after the club opted to part ways with Frankie McAvoy following an inconsistent start to the season.

Having swapped Plymouth Argyle for Preston, the 43-year-old will be determined to help the club reach new heights in the Championship during his stint at Deepdale.

Although the Lilywhites are currently 18th in the second-tier standings, they are only nine points adrift of the play-off places and thus an upturn in form could result in them emerging as a contender for a top-six finish next year.

Set to face Barnsley on Saturday, it will be intriguing to see whether Lowe will be able to get off to the perfect start to his spell in charge of the club by guiding his side to victory in this fixture.

Making reference to the upcoming window, Lowe has revealed that his main priority is to transform the Lilywhites' style whilst he has also suggested that any potential target will need to be the right fit for the club.

Speaking to Lancs Live, Lowe said: "A question for Peter [Risdale]!

"No, I think first and foremost, everyone looks at the transfer window but it's got to be the right fit for the football club.

"I won't go to Peter and say 'I want this or that' - we will sit down and analyse what we've got.

"We've got a fantastic squad already and for me, now, this is a new squad for me to be working with.

"I am hoping the squad look at it as a new manager, new coaching methods and what they can bring to the party in terms of us giving them the style and identity we want.

"And in terms of unleashing them to be exciting.

"So, we won't just bring people in for the sake of it - if it is the right fit and we need it then we'll have a look at it certainly, but the January window is not my focus.

"My focus is getting this football team to play a good brand of football that people can be excited about."

The Verdict

Lowe's comments are spot-on as Preston do have some individuals at their disposal who have illustrated that they are more than capable of competing at this level and thus it will be down to him to get the best out of his squad.

By taking a look at his current group of players over the coming weeks, Lowe will be able to identify areas where he could potentially bolster his squad.

However, any potential arrival will need to compliment the style of play that the Preston boss will be trying to implement at Deepdale.

Having transformed Plymouth's fortunes by guiding the club back to League One during his time in charge, there is no reason why Lowe cannot go on to achieve a similar amount of success with Preston.
