Ryan Lowe believes that Nathan Jones has done a "fantastic job" at Luton Town and was full of praise for his opposite number, in conversation with the Lancashire Post, ahead of Preston North End's visit to Kenilworth Road tonight.

Jones, who took charge of the Hatters back when the club were struggling in League Two, has been instrumental to the club's recent success, with promotion to the Premier League a genuine possibility.

The Welshman has made an incredible impact at the Bedfordshire club, whilst Lowe has also improved the feeling around Preston.

Speaking to the Lancashire Post about Jones and Luton's rise, Lowe said: “It's going to be a tough game, we know that.

"Nathan has done a fantastic job, he did a fantastic job taking them to the Championship then he went away for eight months and then came back. He's a good lad, a fantastic coach and has some good coaching staff with him.

"He goes about his business in the right way. He's different, he gets excited, he's passionate. He's different to other managers but that's because he wears his heart on his sleeve.

"I watched them on Sunday on the TV and he was disappointed they couldn't take a draw or the three points, he'll be wanting to put that right.

“He knows we'll be standing in the way of that, won't roll over, we'll go there with a game plan knowing it's going to be a competitive game because they're fighting to finish in the play-offs.

"We're also fighting to finish as high as we possibly can.”

The verdict

Coming to the crunch end of the season, there is a lot at stake for both clubs, as both possess a chance of securing a play-off spot.

Luton tend to bounce back well after disappointing results, and that is exactly what Jones needs from his squad after a frustrating run out against QPR at the weekend.

It has been pretty well-documented that Luton operate under the lowest budget in the division, making the job that Jones I currently doing even better.

As seen on the touchlines and heard through microphones, Jones is extremely passionate when it comes to the football club and is an excitable figure, with the 48-year-old now hoping that his side can return to winning ways tonight.
