Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson has delivered a passionate message to his teammates on social media, after the Championship play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County last night.
The Whites’ promotion hopes were brought to an end last night, as Derby staged a stunning comeback to win 4-2 to at Elland Road, in one of the greatest play-off semi-finals in recent memory.
Two goals from Jack Marriott, one from Mason Mount and a penalty from Harry Wilson settled the tie, which saw both teams reduced to ten men in the second half.
The result means that Leeds’ 15-year wait for a return to the Premier League continues, but Edmondson was quick to remind his teammates of what they have achieved this season.
After the dramatic night at Elland Road, the 17-year-old posted this message on his personal Instagram account, congratulating his teammates on their season, saying he could not be prouder of what they have achieved.
The forward then added an important message, saying that the players must move on and focus on preparing for next season, where he will hope to play a part in the first-team.
Edmondson made just one substitute appearance for the Leeds’ first-team this season, but has had a prolific campaign for the Whites’ under-23 side, scoring 19 goals.
This is top stuff from Edmondson. The Leeds players will be devastated to miss out on promotion, after a magnificent season in the Championship.
Even though they will be disappointed, the progress that they have made this season under head coach Marcelo Bielsa should not be forgotten.
Edmondson will be hoping for a chance to prove himself in the first team at Elland Road next season and will be hoping to help the team achieve promotion.
