Swansea City are interested in making a move to sign both Andrew Fisher and Harry Darling from MK Dons in the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.

It has already been reported by Wales Online that Swansea have been keen to strengthen their goalkeeping department in the winter window by bringing in Fisher from MK Dons. That comes with Russell Martin wanting to provide extra competition for places with Ben Hamer and Steven Benda.

Fisher was a strong performer for Martin during his time at MK Dons at has managed to record 11 clean sheets in his 39 league appearances last term. So far this season, the keeper has continued his impressive form with him keeping five clean sheets in 18 League One appearances.

According to the latest update from Football Insider, Swansea are lining up a potential deal for Fisher and they want to also make a move for his teammate Darling. That comes with Martin keen to bolster his defensive options for the second half of the campaign.

It is believed that it could set Swansea back around £4 million to secure the signatures of both Fisher and Darling. That comes with Martin thought to be looking to bring in players that he trusts during the January window to bolster the Swans’ chances of closing the gap on the top-six.

The verdict

This could be an excellent double move for Swansea. Martin obviously highly rates Fisher and the Swans are in need of adding another goalkeeper to their squad with Hamer’s deal running down at the moment and Benda having failed to convince he is ready to be their long-term first-choice keeper in the Championship.

Fisher seems to be a player that is ready to make the step up to the Championship and he is already familiar with how Martin wants his sides to operate. That should mean that he would be able to slot in seamlessly into the squad and it could be a real bargain transfer if he arrives and goes on to fulfil his potential.

Darling, meanwhile, has been a strong performer for MK Dons since he was signed by Martin and he helped them record seven clean sheets in 23 appearances in the second half of last term. He has continued that strong form into this term as well and looks to be a player ready to make the jump into the English second tier.

A fee of £4 million for the pair does not seem too bad considering the potential that they both have to offer and the Swans will do well to get this deal over the line. MK Dons might be reluctant to sell two of their key players midway through a campaign, but it could be a case of the attraction of working with Martin once again being too good for the players to turn down.
