Sunderland have endured a frustrating few seasons in recent years, and they’ll be keen to return to the top-flight at the earliest of opportunities.
They’re currently sat seventh in the League One standings, and will know that they need to find some consistency in their results if they’re to stand a chance of promotion into the second tier this term.
The days of playing in the Premier League will feel like a distant memory to plenty of the Stadium of Light faithful, who previously witnessed back-to-back relegations.
Can you remember which Sunderland manager signed these players? Test your knowledge in our quiz!
One player that was part of the squad that were relegated from the top-flight into League One in the space of two seasons was Wahbi Khazri.
The midfielder made 42 appearances for the Black Cats, before departing the club in the summer of 2018, where he joined French side Saint-Étienne, which is where he had spent the 2017/18 campaign on loan.
Plenty of Sunderland fans took to social media to issue their thoughts on Khazri’s time with the club.

Ruined by Moyes.

Lots of talent who was excellent on his day but lacked desire like so many players who washed up on our shore. As bad as Moyes was for us and him even when Moyes left he still didnt turn up & the lack of desire there after was pitiful

Very talented player, criminally underused by Moyes and then fans scapegoated him when he didn’t deserve it
