Stoke City fans were impressed with their new signing Oghenekaro Etebo's display against Croatia in the World Cup, despite him scoring an own goal and his side losing 2-0.

The Nigeria international was representing his country at the World Cup last night and many Stoke fans were watching him in action for the first time.

The 22-year-old recently joined the Potters on a permanent deal from Portuguese top division side Feirense for €7.2m.

Stoke fans were eager to see their new addition in action at the World Cup finals and Nigeria's opening game against Croatia provided a perfect challenge for him.

Up against Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic and Real Madrid's Luka Modric, Etebo was challenged but he impressed Stoke fans.

However, he did inadvertently put the ball in his own net when Mario Mandzukic's diving header rebounded off his legs to give Croatia the lead.

Despite that slice of misfortune, Stoke fans took to Twitter to praise their new capture and here are a selection of the best tweets about his performance.
