Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has revealed that he has used his break away from the game to catch up on several football documentaries - including Amazon's series on Leeds United.

The American company followed the Whites behind the scenes as they pushed for promotion under Marcelo Bielsa last season but ultimately fell short in dramatic fashion.

After slipping up late on in the race for a top two finish, Derby County would beat the Whites over two legs, with the documentary capturing the range of emotions that fans and players went through in the campaign.

And, when sending a message to Palace fans about the current situation, the ex-England chief admitted he had enjoyed watching the series involving the Championship leaders.

"I’ve finally got round to watching several interesting documentaries from various football clubs. I watched Manchester City’s All or Nothing, then Leeds United’s Take Us Home which I very much enjoyed.

"I found a Maradona documentary, then caught up with the one done some while ago with QPR’s Four Year Plan, which was a bit of a debacle! Now I’m halfway through Sunderland ‘til I Die."

QUIZ: These 15 players have played for both Leeds United and Bradford City – True or false?

The verdict

Even though it was a horrible ending for Leeds fans, Take Us Home was a great watch for all neutrals and provided a real insight into what goes on at a big club.

So, it's no surprise that Hodgson found it fascinating and it showed the drama that comes with football in the Championship.

Another series is going to be shown on this season and Leeds will be expecting that to end in promotion given the position they are in.
