Gary Rowett earned his new Derby County side a 1-0 victory on Friday night at home to Queens Park Rangers in the man's first home match as Rams boss, lifting them closer to the play-offs.

The Championship outfit named an unchanged team to the one which conceded a late equaliser to rivals Nottingham Forest just under a fortnight ago, with in fact the only matchday squad change being Darren Bent coming back onto the bench following his recovery from an illness.

Derby dominated play in the opening 45 minutes, coming close on a number of occasions, but most notably when Johnny Russell dribbled with the ball into the box before drifting it wide of the right hand post.

The hosts got the goal they deserved midway through the second half. Tom Ince had an effort on goal from outside the area but QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies was unable to keep hold of the ball, allowing Matej Vydra to smash home from close range into the roof of the net.

Those three points meant stay tenth in the table but close the gap between themselves and the top-six ahead of the weekend's action.
