Derby County have certainly had a decent enough start to proceedings this year in the Championship with them well in contention for the play-off places at this early stage.

The Rams have seven points from a possible twelve so far this year and look as though they've got plenty more to give in terms of performance for the rest of the year.

Certainly, Gary Rowett will be looking to guide them to promotion after having that chance taken away from him with Birmingham City last season and next up is a tasty looking fixture with Sheffield United.

The Blades themselves have had a pretty good start to their campaign and so when the two meet it should be a well-contested affair - though it seems as though Johnny Russell may not make the starting line-up.

The forward picked up a groin issue at the weekend against Bolton and - as quoted by The Derby Telegraph - his manager Rowett does not know yet whether he'll be able to call on his services.

He said:

"I think he will try and train Friday, maybe, but I think he will be touch and go for the weekend."

For sure, then, the Rams are going to have to play a waiting game with this one.

The Verdict

Derby should be pretty pleased with the start they've made this season but they'll be looking for Russell to be fit in what is going to be a tight game at Bramall Lane against the Blades.

Indeed, it could just be decided by the odd goal and with the hosts having Billy Sharp up top, Derby will want as much fire-power as they can call on too.
