Gary Rowett has confirmed that Stoke City’s summer transfer business is far from over following the arrival of Sam Clucas at the bet365 Stadium yesterday.
It’s been an extremely productive summer for Rowett, who has strengthened his Stoke squad with real quality, including Clucas.
The midfielder arrived prior to yesterday’s transfer deadline, moving across the Championship from Swansea City.
However, Rowett doesn’t plan to stop with the midfielder this summer, with the loan window still open until the end of August.
Clucas might’ve been Stoke’s late arrival in the permanent window, but Rowett pointed out that it made more sense for the Potters to be patient with other deals in the coming weeks.
Discussing Stoke’s transfer business with the club’s official website, Rowett said: “If you aren’t careful then you can end up rushing a deal or two and ending up with some players for the season that you may not have necessarily wanted.
“It shows far greater common sense to wait and then make better decisions over the next week or two. The arrival of Sam certainly won’t signal the end of it from our point of view.”
Stoke suffered a disappointing defeat to Leeds United on the opening day of the Championship season, with Rowett’s side left stunned at a packed Elland Road.
However, tomorrow, the Potters have the perfect chance to bounce back when they take on Brentford at the bet365 Stadium.
Brentford made a fine start to the season last weekend, beating Rotherham United 5-1.
Stoke’s transfer approach is sensible, with Rowett’s update an exciting one for supporters to hear.
It’s already been a good summer, but more additions could make it even better for the Potters.
Getting the right quality in on-loan in the coming weeks will help Stoke bounce back from a lousy start.
