New Stoke City manager Gary Rowett is hoping to get striker Saido Berahino back in form following his move to the club from Derby, after the former West Brom striker endured a miserable time of things last season.
In a report by the Derby Telegraph, Rowett commented on Berahino’s situation, citing that the striker had contacted him following his taking over of the club, and he is hoping to mirror the situation of Matej Vydra last year at the Rams.
Vyrdra had struggled to make an impact during his first season with the Rams, but last season finished top scorer in the Championship, despite seeing the club fail to win promotion and falling at the playoff stage once again.
“I’m aware of his situation, I’m aware of some of the things he needs and needs to do better and I will view any of those things as a blank canvas. But when you look at someone like Saido’s quality – I had a similar situation with (Matej) Vydra at Derby – where he hadn’t had a very good season so you look and ask if you can reignite some of those players.” said Rowett.
Rowett is hoping to lead the Potters back to the Premier League following their relegation last season and will be hoping the likes of Berahino can rediscover their form and help fire the club back into the top flight.
