Stoke City are looking to bring Rory Delap back to the club this summer, with Gary Rowett eyeing a reunion with the coach.

According to a report in the Telegraph, Rowett is looking to add Delap to his coaching team this summer, as his plans at the bet365 Stadium begin to take shape.

Rowett turned his back on Derby County last month after guiding them to sixth, taking over at Stoke on a three-year deal ahead of their return to the Sky Bet Championship.

He is now planning a raid on his former club, with Rowett looking to lure Delap away from Derby.

Delap has been coaching Derby’s academy, but will move to link up with Rowett at Stoke, where he spent time during his playing career.

The 41-year-old featured for Stoke between 2006 and 2013, making over 200 appearances for the Potters and helping them establish themselves in the Premier League.

That spell in the Premier League came to an end last season, with Rowett now preparing Stoke for their return to the Championship.

The Verdict

Delap knows Stoke well and would be a shrewd addition behind the scenes.

He knows the club, but also Rowett, who he will know well from their time at Derby.

This is an encouraging move for Stoke and further highlights what Rowett is looking to put together ahead of next season.

It’s early in the summer, but for Stoke, the signs so far are encouraging.
