Derby County manager Gary Rowett believes he can get the best out of his side despite losing players, and thinks a close knit group can be more valuable than having too many quality players.

In a report in the Derby Telegraph, Rowett confirmed he believed that the club could 'lost six players' and be a stronger group for it.

Rowett's optimism should be good news for Rams fans, who have had a bad week in terms of departures, with Will Hughes being sold to Watford and Tom Ince looking increasingly likely to sign for Huddersfield over the weekend.

However, Rowett put a positive light on things, saying"We had 29 players at the end of last season and my feeling was we could probably lose six players and actually be a stronger group for it because you get a closer knit bunch of players,"

"It would also mean there would be more flexibility in terms of players playing football and being close to it."

Rowett has already been active in the market, bringing in experienced defender Curtis Davies, while he is also edging closer to a deal for Andre Wisdom.

It's expected to be a busy summer for Derby, who have had a turbulent few seasons under owner Mel Morris. However, with Rowett now in charge, many Rams fans are hopeful he can bring success to the club following his excellent spell with Birmingham City.
