Gary Rowett has delivered his verdict on Nuno Espirito Santo’s spat with Neil Warnock over the weekend, jumping to the defence of the Wolverhampton Wanderers boss.

Wolves and Cardiff played out a dramatic contest on Friday evening, with Nuno’s side holding out for a 1-0 victory to move to the brink of promotion, with the Bluebirds missing two stoppage time penalties.

However, Warnock wasn’t impressed by Nuno’s celebrations following the contest, describing his counterpart as a ‘total disgrace,’ despite the Wolves boss moving to apologise after Warnock’s outburst.

Wolves now face Derby in the Championship on Wednesday evening, with Rowett quizzed on Friday’s fallout ahead of going up against Nuno.

Rowett, speaking to Derby’s official mediain his pre-match press conference, jumped to the defence of Nuno, applauding his apology and refusing to criticise his celebrations.

He said:

Derby head to Wolves looking to halt their surge towards the Premier League, but also keep their play-off push on track.

The Rams currently sit fifth in the table ahead of the final six fixtures of the season, and are heading to Molineux with back-to-back victories under their belts.

The Verdict

Rowett’s relationship with Warnock isn’t the best, but it is hard not to argue with what he is saying here.

Nuno’s passion boiled over on Friday, but he apologised to Warnock, which was greeted with a shocking response from the Cardiff boss.

It’s a something that we haven’t heard the last of.
