Gary Rowett has confirmed that just 10 senior players will train today for Derby County, as injuries pile up against the Rams in the Sky Bet Championship.

Speaking to Derby’s official media (@dcfcofficial) ahead of Sunday’s clash with Cardiff City, Rowett confirmed the worrying injury news.

A lengthy injury list has hindered Derby in recent weeks, with Rowett able to confirm that Tom Lawrence was now also a doubt ahead of the Cardiff clash on Sunday.

The Rams’ injury-hit squad find themselves on a worrying run of form at a key part of the season, having failed to pick up a victory in their last seven fixtures.

That run of form has seen Rowett’s side slide out of automatic promotion contention, with Derby’s sole focus now seemingly on securing a place in the top-six over the course of the next nine fixtures.

Rowett’s side enter this weekend in fifth, but are now just three points clear of seventh placed Sheffield United, who are hot on the heels of the Rams and Middlesbrough.

The Rams’ superior goal difference means it is unlikely they will slip out of the top-six this weekend, whichever way the results go.

The Verdict

Derby find themselves in a difficult place right now, with Rowett’s side feeling the pressure in the race to secure the top-six.

A lengthy injury list is working massively against the Rams, and Rowett’s update this morning will add further worry heading into a fixture with Cardiff, who are flying at the moment.

It’s going to be a huge couple of months for Derby.
