Derby County are dusting themselves off after last week's play-off final heartbreak where they were denied Premier League promotion by Aston Villa.

The 2-1 defeat would have been painful for Derby fans who must once again settle for another season in the Championship. However, there have been plenty of talking points surrounding the club this week this week as plans are set in motion for next season.

The club has extended the services of one regular start and announced its retained list for the 2019/20 season, while there has also been increased speculation surrounding the future of manager Frank Lampard.

Here's what some Derby fans have been saying on social media about some of the news...

Roos signs news contract

Kelle Roos established himself as a regular starter in Lampard's side during the second half of the season and the club has now announced that he has been rewarded with a new contract.

The Dutchman made 19 league appearances and kept six clean sheets for the Rams after Scott Carson suffered an injury midway through the season. Roos has been at the club since 2014, but this was his first ever run in the side.

The 27-year-old has been rewarded with a three-year deal for his performances, despite making a crucial error in the play-off final to hand John McGinn the chance to score Villa's second goal.

So how have Derby fans responded to this contract news?

Derby announce retained list

Shortly after Roos' contract news, the club then announced its retained list in full ahead of the new season.

Efe Ambrose, Alex Pearce, Ashley Cole, David Nugent, Marcus Olsson were among those declared to no longer be under contract at the club, while it was confirmed that Craig Bryson is in talks over a new deal.

There was also some confusion regarding the announcement as Bradley Johnson, Jacob Butterfield and Nick Blackman are all said to still be under contract, despite it being widely believed their deals had expired.

Speculation regarding Lampard's future

Lampard has been linked with replacing Maurizio Sarri as Chelsea boss with it now being reported that the former midfielder is leading the race for the role, according to Goal.

The 40-year-old made 648 appearances for the Blues as a player and it now appears he is now wanted in a managerial capacity by the club after guiding Derby to the play-off final last season.

He still has two years to run on the contract he signed with Derby last summer, but he may find it hard to turn down an offer from the club where he spent the vast majority of his playing career.
