We're getting towards the middle of the January transfer window now and fans will be beginning to take stock of what their sides have done and what they will do in the weeks ahead.

Certainly, the January window is always busy in the Football League as it presents the last big chance for teams to get it right ahead of the promotion and relegation battles to come.

And so, with that all in mind, it's time to take a look at the best stories doing the rounds today, starting at the City Ground with Nottingham Forest...

The Reds have enjoyed a good week this week with them knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup on Sunday and seeing Aitor Karanka arrive in the last few days. He's aiming to be busy it would seem, too, with the Telegraph reporting that the club is looking into Chelsea talent Charly Musonda.

Another exciting talent being linked with a move away, meanwhile, is James Maddison at Norwich. Indeed, he has been superb this season and it seems that his form has attracted the attentions of Wolves who would surely get even stronger with his arrival. This comes via the Express and Star.

At another promotion chasing club, Bristol City, things have been busy today. The Robins have confirmed that Liverpool winger Ryan Kent has arrived on a loan deal for the rest of the season. Kent knows the Championship well after a stint last season and will be looking to reaffirm his potential after a tough time at Freiburg earlier in this campaign.

Our last two big stories today, though, concern Aston Villa. First of all, the Villans are apparently keen on signing Marko Grujic - again of Liverpool - on loan. The young midfielder has the potential to be a very good player but needs the minutes and ESPN reckon Villa are looking to offer that.

The exit door might be seeing a few faces at Villa, too. Gregg Evans - who knows plenty about the comings and goings at the club - has suggested today that a number of clubs are interested in a number of Villa stars. Things could be about to get busy at B6, then:
