Rotherham United are facing a real battle to try and secure their survival in the Championship this season with the Millers set to face a very nervous ending to the campaign.

The Millers head into March’s international break inside the bottom three in the Championship and they will be relying on the games in hand that have built up over recent weeks to try and get them out of trouble. Paul Warne’s side will not give up and they will continue to show their battling qualities which were on display against Bristol City.

The Yorkshire club would have been hoping that they could have had a more comfortable season in the Championship this time around, but life in the second tier never comes easily for the Millers who have to battle against sides with far bigger budgets. Rotherham will be confident they can still survive the drop this time around.

While we wait to see what happens with the Millers’ relegation battle. Here, we have put together a list of the club’s youngest ever goalscorers and look at how their careers progressed after bursting onto the scenes. Click ‘next’ to scroll through this list…

Coming in at number ten in the list of the Miller’s youngest ever goalscorers is well-travelled forward Jonathan Forte, who makes this list having scored his first goal for Rotherham during a short loan spell at the age of just 19 years 07 months 21 days.

Forte managed to score his first goal for the Millers during his loan spell from Sheffield United in a meeting away at Huddersfield Town in March 2006. The forward managed to put the Millers 1-0 up in the game producing a tidy finish to a through ball from Lee Williamson. That was as good as it got on the day for them with Andy Booth scoring a hat-trick for the hosts who ran out 4-1 winners in the end.

The forward went on to make 11 appearances for Rotherham in total during his loan spell with the club and he scored a further three goals during that time as he just about helped the Yorkshire club survive in League One in the 2005/06 campaign. He then went out on loan to Doncaster Rovers the following campaign scoring nine goals in 51 appearances.

A permanent switch to Scunthorpe United followed for him and he scored 11 goals in four campaigns there before a move to Southampton in 2010. He failed to make an impact for the Saints ad had loan spells with the likes of Preston. Notts County, Crawley Town and Sheffiled United before moving to Oldham Athletic. He had a two-season spell back at Notts County before finishing his career at Exeter City in 2018/19.

In at ninth place on this list is forward Ryan Taylor who makes the list having managed to score his first goal for the Millers at the age of just 19 years 06 months 20 days.

Taylor managed to score his first-ever senior goal for Rotherham during a home clash with Shrewsbury Town in League Two back in November 2007. The forward managed to get on the scoresheet in a good 2-0 win for the Millers, which managed to help the club continue to climb up the table after they had started the campaign with a ten-point deduction.

The forward managed to six goals in total in his 38 appearances for Rotherham during the 2007/08 campaign as they went on to finish in 9th place in the League Two table. The following year he scored four goals in 37 appearances but Rotherham could only finish in 14th place in the fourth tier. Taylor would score a further two goals in 2009/10 before coming to life with 12 in 37 games in the 2010/11 campaign.

He left for Bristol City in the summer of 2011 but he did not have much of an impact at Ashton Gate and managed to score just twice in 42 matches, before moving on to Portsmouth who he scored 16 goals in 59 appearances for. Taylor is currently with League Two Newport County after spells with Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle.

Coming in at eighth place on this list is versatile Rotherham academy graduate Stephen Brogan, who makes this list after scoring his first Millers goal at the age of just 19 years 05 months 24 days.

Brogan scored his first goal for Rotherham back in October 2007 during a meeting at home with Mansfield Town in League Two. He managed to get on target as Rotherham ran out 3-2 winners against Mansfield and inflicted a sixth successive defeat on their opponents as they started to climb the table and recover from their ten-point deduction.

The versatile player did enjoy his best spell with the club during that 2007/08 campaign and in total he managed to make 34 appearances in all competitions and scored four goals in those matches. However, Brogan would then become a bit-part player at the football club really and managed to make just 13 appearances in his final three seasons which also included a loan spell with Stalybridge Celtic.

He left the Millers for Alfreton Town in 2011 and he has had something of a journeyman career in the lower leagues of English football ever since going on to play for the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Guiseley, Southport, North Ferriby United and Boston United. He is currently with Spennymoor Town.

In seventh place in this list is defender Farrend Rawson, who makes this list having managed to score his first senior goal for the Millers during a loan spell from Derby County at the age of just 19 years 02 months 01 day.

Rawson managed to register his first-ever professional senior goal for Rotherham during a meeting against Charlton Athletic at the Valley in the Championship in September 2015. The defender managed to put the Millers in front at Charlton inside 38 minutes rising highest to head home Joe Newell’s corner. However, the hosts would equalise in the second half through Patrick Bauer.

Overall, Rawson managed to make 16 appearances in total for the Millers during his second loan spell at the club in 2015/16 and did play a part in helping to keep the club in the Championship. Since then, he has gone on to have further loan spells at both Coventry City and then Accrington Stanley before he permanently left Derby for Forest Green Rovers in January 2018.

At Forest Green, Rawson has became a crucial player as he helped them to consolidate themselves in League Two and push towards the play-off places in his two-and-a-half seasons. He eventually made the move to Mansfield Town last summer.

In at number six on this list is attacker Sam Hoskins, who like others on this list appears for scoring his first goal for the Millers during a loan spell from Southampton at the age of just 19 years 02 months 02 days.

Hoskins managed to score his first goal for the Millers during a trip to AFC Wimbledon in April 2012 in League Two, with the attacker managing to score a crucial late winning goal for Rotherham as they ran out 2-1 winners to keep their play-off hopes alive. However, that would not be enough to eventually see them into the top-seven with them ultimately ending that campaign in 10th place.

Overall, Hoskins went on to score two goals in his eight appearances on loan with Rotherham before he was then sent out on loan again by Southampton to Stevenage in the 2012/13 campaign where he made 14 appearances and scored one goal. He then moved permanently to Yeovil Town in the summer of 2013 but could not help them stay in the Championship.

In the summer of 2015, after scoring one goal in 35 appearances for Yeovil in two seasons, he left for Northampton Town where he has enjoyed an impressive spell and is still an important player now. To date, he has 36 goals and made well over 200 appearances for the Cobblers.

Coming in at number five on this list is another player who managed to register his first goal the Millers at a youthful age during a loan spell. He registered that first goal at the age of just 19 years 01 month 03 days.

Barker managed to score his first goal for the club following his loan move from Manchester City in a Championship clash with Ipswich Town at the New York Stadium in November 2015. The attacker managed to score with a stunning strike inside 56 minutes, but that came after their opponents had already raced into a comfortable 4-0 lead. In the end, the game finished 5-2 to the Tractor Boys.

The attacker managed to make just three further goalless appearances during his time with the Millers. He has since spent time out on loan with the likes of NAC Breda, Hibernian and Preston North End. That came before he eventually permanently left Manchester City in the summer of 2019 signing for Rangers.

So far, he has not managed to make a major impact for Rangers and he has scored just three goals in his 26 appearances. Barker has been sent out on loan to Oxford United for the remainder of the current campaign.

In fourth place on this list is winger Jamie Yates who makes this list having managed to score his first-ever goal in senior football for the Millers at the age of just 18 years 09 months 26 days.

Yates managed to score his first-ever goal for the Millers during a home clash against Morecambe in October 2007, with the winger managing to score one of Rotherham’s three goals on the day as they ran out 3-1 winners. It was a win that was able to help them continue to improve their league standing after they started the 2007/08 campaign on -10 points.

Overall, Yates managed to make 34 appearances for Rotherham in total and would score a further two goals for the club. He also spent a short six-game spell on loan with Burton Albion in 2009. He left the Millers in 2009 signing for Alfreton Town. However, he lasted just two-games there and went on to sign for Boston United.

With Boston he scored eight goals in 77 appearances before moving on to Gainsborough Trinity where he made 130 appearances in two years. Moves to North Ferriby United and Matlock Town followed and he is now with Sheffield FC working as a player-coach.

In at number three is Jamie Green, with the defender having made this list after scoring his first goal in professional football with the Millers at the age of just 18 years 08 months 15 days.

Green’s first-ever goal in senior professional football came during a clash with Barnet at home in May 2008 on the final day of the campaign. The defender managed to score what is an iconic goal in the club’s history with him netting the only goal of the game and therefore the final goal ever scored at Millmoor, it is something that means he will always hold a special place in the club’s history.

Overall, the defender managed to make 68 appearances for the Millers, in which he scored three goals and had a short loan spell with Boston United in 2011. In August 2011 he made a permanent exit from Rotherham and signed for Grimsby Town. However, he managed to make just six appearances for them and eventually found himself in the lower leagues.

Spells with the likes of Rossington Main, Buxton and Gainsborough Trinity have followed and he is now with Sheffield FC.

Coming in at second place on this list is midfielder Ollie Banks, who makes this list having managed to score his first-ever goal in professional football for the Millers at the age of just 18 years 07 months 16 days.

Banks managed to score his first-ever goal for Rotherham on what would be his only ever appearance for the club which came during a meeting with Torquay United at home in May 2011. The midfielder managed to finish off the game for the Millers putting them 3-1 up after latching on to a pass from forward Adam Le Fondre.

The midfielder would be sent out on loan by the Millers to the likes of Sheffield FC, Buxton and Stalybridge Celtic before he permanently left the club in 2012 for Gainsborough Trinity. Spells in non-league with the likes of Scarborough, North Ferriby United and FC United of Manchester followed before he earned a move back to the Football League with Chesterfield in 2013.

For Chesterfield, he went on to make 99 appearances and score 13 goals, before Oldham Athletic came calling for him in 2016. Two seasons at Oldham saw him register three goals in 51 appearances before he left for Tranmere Rovers in 2018. He is now with Barrow and has to date made nine League Two appearances for them.

In first place on this list is arguably one of the finest players that the Millers have ever produced from within their academy set-up in the form of forward Will Hoskins. He is the club’s youngest ever scorer at the moment after scoring his first-ever goal for them at the age of just 17 years 07 months 20 days.

Hoskins managed to burst onto the scene with Rotherham and scored his first goal in a First Division clash away at Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day in 2003. The forward was introduced after an hour by Ronnie Moore with the Millers 1-0 down but he transformed things for them first finishing off after good work from John Mullin and then adding a winning goal just two minutes later as they secured a 2-1 win.

Overall, the forward managed to make an impressive impact during his time in the Millers’ first team and managed to score 23 goals in 73 appearances for the club. That earned him a move to Watford in January 2007, after he had scored 15 goals in 22 games at the start of the 2006/07 campaign. However, he would manage just seven goals in 60 games for the Hornets before leaving for Bristol Rovers.

17 goals in 34 games for the Pirates in the 2010/11 campaign earned the forward a move to Brighton where he struggled to replicate his form in his three-year spell with the Seagulls. Moves to Oxford United and Exeter City followed for him and he is currently still playing with semi-professional side Kings Langley.
