Rotherham United are preparing for a return to League One, with full focus on bouncing back into the Championship.

That's something that Rotherham have been good at over the years, with Paul Warne certainly knowing what it takes to put together a promotion-winning campaign in the third-tier.

Before things kick off next month, there's the small matter of the transfer window for the Millers to manoeuvre their way through.

The end of Euro 2020 is likely to really kickstart things across the country, with Rotherham having work to do on Warne's squad in terms of incomings and outgoings.

We start this latest round-up piece by looking at a confirmed exit:

Trevor Clarke

It was confirmed back on Friday night that Clarke was leaving South Yorkshire after Rotherham accepted Bristol Rovers' bid to sign the left-back on a permanent basis.

Clarke, 23, made only 20 appearances across two seasons with Rotherham, with his exit coming after the Millers accepted an undisclosed bid from Bristol Rovers.

The Gas are preparing for life in League Two in 2021/22, with Joey Barton at the helm.

Michael Smith

Smith impressed last season in the Championship, with the 29-year-old scoring 10 goals for Rotherham despite their relegation.

The striker now has second-tier suitors sniffing around him, including Middlesbrough, with Neil Warnock known to be a big fan of what Smith offers.

Paul Warne has recently confirmed that interest in his striker, but the Rotherham boss has stated that unless the money is right, Smith will not be going anywhere.

He's quoted by Teesside Live as saying: "If Smudge doesn't go, it might be because everyone's a little bit cash-poor at the moment because of the times we've been living in.

"We think the world of Smudge here. He's been brilliant for us. I want him to have a good career but someone coming in with, like, £250,000 for him is never going to work.

"In the Championship, a lot of clubs are in a lot of trouble. I don't dispute the fact that clubs want him but I don't know how many of them can actually buy him."

Reece Hutchinson

As per Paul Davis from the Rotherham Advertiser, Hutchinson has been on trial with the Millers recently.

The 21-year-old is a free agent after leaving Burton Albion, who he made 56 appearances for between 2018 and 2021.

It's claimed that there's no certainty that Rotherham will take this any further, but Warne has been impressed with what the left-back has shown during his trial.
