Rotherham United have secured the loan signing of Derby County striker, Connor Sammon, the Millers have confirmed.

The Derby County striker has found it hard to get a look in under Steve McClaren. With the likes of Chris Martin, Johnny Russell and co all on top form, it was always going to be hard for Sammon to get games.

It seems that Sammon was unsettled at Derby and has had his wish granted of a move away from Pride Park.

Sammon was previously on-loan at Ipswich Town this season, but the striker only managed the solitary goal for the Suffolk club in a 20 game spell.

Ipswich manager, Mick McCarthy said he was depriving the Irishman from playing first team football so both parties decided to cut the loan short.

Speaking on Wednesday, Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy said to TWTD: "We've got him for 12 months but it's completely unfair if he's not going to play. I'm depriving him of playing, so he's moved on."

Sammon has now joined Championship side, Rotherham United in a bid to gain first team football and get his confidence back.

The former Wigan striker is a big unit with unquestionable pace, a real nightmare for any defence, it seems Sammon just needs a chance to prove his worth; something that Rotherham are happy to do.

He could make his debut for the Millers in Saturday's home match against Championship leaders Bournemouth.

Speaking about the deal to the Rotherham club website, Millers boss Steve Evans said: "We needed to find a replacement for Alex Revell, and Conor Sammon is a young man I’ve liked for a long time,”

“We’ve worked hard to get him, with a number of other clubs fighting to get him but we got it over the line after knowing he was likely to join us from last Friday. What I’ve learned from Conor so far is that he’s a man of his word despite the interest and we’re thankful to him, his agent and to Derby County.”
