It's no secret that Rotherham United suffered an excruciatingly painful season in the 2016/17 campaign, as they finished rock-bottom with just 23 points.

But the Millers need to put that disappointment behind them now as they enter what they hope will be a much more positive season back in League One.

Paul Warne will be looking to freshen up his squad to prepare them for what could be a very well-fought campaign with big sides, such as Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth amongst favourites to earn promotion.

One reinforcement which should be at least considered by manager Warne is centre-back Ellis Plummer.

Plummer has just been released by Premier League giants Manchester City and is now on the search for a new home where he will hope to find regular first-team football.

Manchester City extended his contract at the start of last season but a decision has now been made by the club to let the defender go.

Plummer never managed to break into the first-team at Manchester City but loan spells away from the Etihad at Oldham Athletic, and Scottish side St Mirren saw him gain valuable experience.

The 22-year-old is a versatile defender who is capable of playing at both centre-back and also at left-back, something which could prove useful at some point throughout the campaign.

If he were to sign, he could help provide some defensive stability, something which Rotherham didn't have last season when they leaked a monstrous 98 goals.
