Having already secured the services of nine new players this summer, Rotherham United manager Paul Warne is now set to bolster his squad once again.

According to The Star, the Millers are reportedly close to completing three signings ahead of next week's transfer deadline.

Although it is not yet known who Rotherham are targeting, Warne is thought to be looking to add to two wingers as well as a central defender.

The Millers were considering a switch for Sheffield United's Ben Heneghan but have since diverted their attention elsewhere following the defender's decision to join Blackpool last week.

Speaking to The Star about the possibility of signing one of the players in question, Warne said: "We're just dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's.

"I met him and I liked him. He fits what I want.

"He's got other offers.

"I probably don't offer as much in wages as the other two teams who want him but I like to think we offer more than just money.

"I would like to that by the weekend I've got a permanent winger in, a permanent centre-half in and probably another winger coming in."

Warne went on to add: "We've had an offer accepted for a second permanent winger.

"We need to see if we can agree terms with him and whether we fit his ambitions.

"I'll have to quickly meet him because I want to get him in the building as soon as possible."

Rotherham, who are currently 14th in League One, head to Hillsborough tomorrow to face Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.

If the Millers can secure victory over their Championship rivals, they could set up a mouth-watering clash with Liverpool or Manchester United with both sides entering the competition in the third round.

The Verdict

When you consider that Rotherham can no longer call upon the services of Semi Ajayi following his move to West Bromwich Albion earlier this summer, it is no surprise that Warne is looking to bolster his options in the heart of defence.

Whereas Richard Wood and Michael Ihiewke have both made encouraging starts to the season, the arrival of a new centre-back could provide some much-needed competition in this particular area.

In terms of bringing in two wingers, it could be argued that this is also a wise decision by Warne.

Having seen Jon Taylor and Ryan Williams leave the AESSEAL New York Stadium following last season's relegation, the Millers are clearly in need of some creativity from midfield.
