Blackpool have reportedly won the race to sign Rotherham United forward Jerry Yates according to journalist Alan Nixon.

It was claimed by Nixon that Swindon Town were also interested in signing Yates on a permanent deal, but they have been beaten by the Tangerines in the race to sign him.

Swindon will be bitterly disappointed they couldn't reach an agreement for Yates, with the 23-year-old spending the majority of this year's campaign on loan with the Robins.

Yates made 35 appearances for Swindon this season, and chipped in with 14 goals and one assist in his time with the club, as they won promotion into League One.

But Blackpool seem to have won the race to land his signature, and they'll be hoping that he can add some quality to their attacking options ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Blackpool finished 13th in the League One table this season, and they'll know that they have to show improvement when the new season gets back under way.

It's not surprising to see Rotherham United moving him on, as Paul Warne's side will be preparing for life back in the Championship, after they won promotion themselves from League One this term.

The Verdict:

This could prove to be a smart bit of business by Blackpool.

With Armand Gnanduillet having left the club, they need a striker that is proven in front of goal, and Yates fits that description, having played his football with Swindon Town in recent seasons.

Swindon will definitely be frustrated that they weren't able to better Blackpool's offer for Yates, as you would imagine that they would have been confident of securing a deal for the forward.

If he can replicate the type of performances that he had shown for the Robins, then Blackpool will have a promising forward on their hands.
