Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has told the official club website that Arsenal loanee Jordi Osei-Tutu left Fratton Park on crutches, after Rotherham United's automatic promotion chances were dealt a huge blow.

With Portsmouth running out as 3-0 winners, the Millers were unable to take advantage of one of the two games in hand they have to try and pull themselves back above MK Dons.

Osei-Tutu, who started last night before being forced off with an injury in the 84th minute, has been an important part of Warne's squad since arriving on loan from Arsenal.

The 23-year-old started the campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest, however, he was unable to see much game time with the high-flying Championship outfit.

Speaking to the official club website after the game, Warne said: “Jordi is on crutches and a boot as we speak, I thought he’d broken his foot at first. We’ll have to see how he is, but it doesn’t look good.”

The verdict

Despite not emerging as a regular starter as of yet, Osei-Tutu has shown some promising signs since making his move from the Premier League giants.

Not only is the blow because of the calibre of player they have potentially lost for the rest of the season, but at the crunch end of a campaign, you want a full-strength squad.

The Millers do possess quality in abidance, and whilst they are in dodgy form, they certainly have what it takes to stop the inconsistent form.

The club will be hoping that the injury is not as bad as first feared, with the extent of the injury yet to be known.
