Rotherham United boss Matt Taylor has revealed that the Millers didn't receive any late bids for key forward Chiedozie Ogbene during the latter stages of the January transfer window, speaking to the Yorkshire Post.

The Republic of Ireland international was the subject of interest from multiple clubs according to various reports, having seen him impress for the South Yorkshire outfit with seven goals and two assists in 25 competitive appearances.

Middlesbrough had been linked with a move for him, with Michael Carrick's side already luring Dan Barlaser away from the Millers. With the Teesside outfit previously thought to be targeting a wide forward, this move would have made sense.

However, Boro failed to get a double deal over the line in the end, although Taylor's side still weren't out of the woods yet with other sides previously weighing up a move for the 25-year-old whose contract expires in the summer.

Millwall and Swansea City were two other teams believed to have taken an interest in Ogbene - but the former brought in Duncan Watmore and Ollie Burke instead during the latter stages of the window.

That's perhaps one reason why Rotherham weren't bombarded with offers for their key man in the final stages of last month.

Speaking about the 25-year-old, Taylor said: "There were no late bids, a lot of interest in the middle of the window, which we spoke to Cheo about.

"I cannot compliment Cheo enough about how open and honest he’s been with us in terms of his expectations, where he wants his ultimate destination to be, whether that’s this window or the end of the season."

The Verdict:

The player certainly seems to have handed this speculation extremely well and that's why there's unlikely to be any ill feelings from Rotherham supporters if he decides to move on at the end of the campaign.

He could have been an excellent addition for Boro considering he can operate in a wide position, with that position arguably needing to be addressed before the end of the window.

It may not have taken him too long to settle into life at the Riverside either considering Barlaser would have been moving with him, so it's a shame from both Boro and his point of view that he couldn't make this switch.

However, he wasn't guaranteed to be a regular starter at the Riverside if he had linked up with Carrick's men and may not have been one of the first names on the teamsheet at The Den or the Swansea.com Stadium either.

Because of this, staying in South Yorkshire probably isn't the worst outcome for the player who looks set to be regularly involved between now and the end of the season and can then weigh up his options.
