Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham United have failed in an attempt to sign former West Ham United defender Joey O'Brien, who is currently unattached, according to Freelance journalist Jamie O'Niel.

Joey O'Brien left West Ham United at the end of June following the expiration of his contract, having spent a five-year spell at the Premier League club.

The Republic of Ireland international since the end of June has struggled to find his next club.

A player of both Joey O'Brien's calibre and experience could've been a major coup if Alan Stubbs and Rotherham United could've pulled it off.

However, East Midland's journalist Jamie O'Niel has revealed that despite O'Brien holding prolonged talks with Rotherham United, the talks have proved to be unsuccessful as any potential move has fallen through.

Rotherham United fans, how do you feel about the news? Are you disappointed to miss out on a player of Joey O'Brien's calibre? Could O'Brien have helped to shore up a leaking defence? Does Rotherham's squad still need strengthening? Is the full back positions a particular position of concern? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
