Rotherham United defender Joel Ekstrand has revealed via the club’s official website┬áthat he is delighted to have joined the club and that he is excited about what lies ahead.

Despite Rotherham United being in a precarious position, Joel Ekstrand believes that this move could help kick start his career again after a frustrating couple of years.

In 2014/15, Ekstrand was regarded as one of the finest defenders in the Sky Bet Championship as he guided Watford to the Premier League.

However, a serious injury kept him sidelined for the entirety of the Hornets’ first season back in the top flight and the 28-year-old was subsequently released in summer 2016.

After a successful trial at Bristol City, the Sweden international signed for Lee Johnson’s side but was released in January after managing just two outings – one of which was against Rotherham.

The Millers snapped him up on a free and the towering centre half described the move as “win-win” for club and player.

Rotherham fans – what do you make of this? Can Ekstrand help you pull off an unlikely escape? Let us know in the comments below…
