Rotherham United have confirmed that goalkeeper Lewis Price has left the club, while fellow shot-stopper Josh Vickers has completed a move to the Millers.

Price, who originally joined the club in the summer of 2016 from Sheffield Wednesday, made a total of 29 appearances in all competitions for the club, where he never really established as a regular first-team player.

Now it seems as though the 36-year-old will look to do that elsewhere, after it was announced that he has seen his contract with the club terminated by mutual consent, in order to pursue another opportunity elsewhere.

It hasn't taken Rotherham long to find a replacement for Price, with Vickers having already seen his move to the New York Stadium confirmed.

Vickers who had been a free-agent following his departure from Lincoln City - for whom he made 78 appearances in all competitions between 2017 and 2020 - has now put pen to paper on a contract until the end of the current season.

The 24-year-old now joins on-loan Chelsea man Jamal Blackman and Viktor Johansson to make up the three goalkeeping options available to Millers boss Paul Warne for the coming season.

The Verdict

These two deals do seem to make sense for all concerned.

It doesn't seem as though Price had much chance of getting regular football in the rest of the season, so, with his career likely to be entering its final stages, you can understand why he might want to move elsewhere to get one last shot at regular senior football.

With Rotherham moving to bring in Vickers, they should be able to cope with Price's departure, and at 24-years-old, there is more long-term potential in this move for the Millers, should they decide to keep the former Lincoln man beyond the end of this season.
