Rotherham United have confirmed the signing of Hakeem Odoffin from Hamilton Academical for an undisclosed fee, subject to FA and EFL ratification and international clearance.

Odoffin, 23, arrives at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on a three-year deal. He scored 4 times in 41 appearances for The Accies last term, and Millers boss Paul Warne has monitored his progress for some time now.

Odoffin has played a large part of his professional career north of the border for Livingston and Hamilton, but began his youth career in the academy of Tottenham Hotspur. He has had spells during his career at Eastleigh and Northampton at a young age.

The Englishman began his trade as a defender, but in Scottish football has transformed to a holding midfielder role, an area that Rotherham are weak in. There was interest from elsewhere, but it was the South Yorkshire club that managed to secure his desired signature for an undisclosed fee.

He will be eligible to play in Rotherham's curtain raiser against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, as he may get the chance to play his debut in front of the Millers faithful.

The Verdict

This signing is key to Rotherham who seek a return to the second tier, a feat they have accomplished 6 times before. The midfielder, who arrives as Warne's third summer recruit, has displayed consistency during his time at Hamilton after playing every game throughout their long, covid-struck season.

The consistency displays a key factor for Paul Warne's side, as for promotion in this league, you have to know you're best team and stick with it. If Odoffin can pull a good run of games together, he's sure to be a regular.
