Rotherham boss Steve Evans is remaining quiet when concerning speculation surrounding the vacant Peterborough manager position, reports ITV.
Evans, who has been Rotherham manager since September 2012, has refused to comment on rumours that he will be taking over the vacant manager position at Peterborough after Dave Robertson’s sacking last week.
The charismatic manager has been the favourite for the job for a while now despite the fact that he remains the boss of Sky Bet Championship struggler’s Rotherham. However, the 52- year-old is concentrating on Rotherhams’ progress in the league for the time being.
The speculation comes as a result of his Peterborough supporting family and the fact that he lives in the Cambridgeshire town.
Whether or not his ties to the area is likely to draw him away from Rotherham remains to be seen, but he stands firm in not opening up about a potential move for the time being.
Speaking to ITV, he said: “It’s no distraction for me. I have nothing to say about Peterborough United. My focus has been on Charlton and Brighton in the space of four days.
The chairman has given me his support. That’s no surprise to Steve Evans. The surprise is the other drivel that comes with it.
I refrained from saying anything in the lead-up to Saturday. It would have been disrespectful to Peterborough United for me to talk about it.
I said to the vice-chairman earlier in the week that I would not be distracted, that I wouldn’t talk about [it]. I’m only going to talk about it when we wake up after Brighton”
So for the moment, Evans is staying quiet. But speculation is increasing and the chances that he may take over the vacant Peterborough position is seeming ever more likely.
Despite the fact that Peterborough are in the league below Rotherham may hinder a potential move, whilst Evans’ loyalty to the Yorkshire Championship club may mean that he turns down a potential move.
However, the manager has significant experience of League One and may see the move as convenient for him and his family.
