The Millers beat FA Cup semi-finalist's Reading 2-1 at home which meant that even though they had just received a three point deduction for fielding an ineligible player, they would still be in the second tier of English football next year.

However, after their win, the fate of both Millwall and Wigan Athletic was sealed as they both joined Blackpool as they were relegated into League One.

Manager of the Millers Steve Evans told BBC Radio Sheffield in an emotional state after the game: “We are very proud. In terms of the importance of the game, this is my best ever result as a manager.

“The pressure has been intense since they took our points. There has not been a lot of sleep. The has been heartache and all the emotions we go though and did I shed a tear when the points came off? Yes I did, but I had to stand strong for the dressing room.”

After a goalless first half, Matt Derbyshire fired the Millers into the lead seven minutes after the restart and that was quickly followed up by a goal from Lee Frecklington in the 59th, both of which were set up by Daniel Ward.

Unfortunately for the home side, they were unable to keep a clean sheet as Oliver Norwood scored in the 87th minute to make the score line seem less comfortable than it actually was as the New York stadium.
