Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has admitted that Jonson Clarke-Harris' future at the club is up in the air, according to The Sheffield Star.

With Jonson Clarke-Harris only just returning from a nine month injury lay-off after knee surgery, Warne has admitted that he might not be offered a new contract.

The 22-year-old's current deal expires in the summer and he needs to prove to Warne that he wants to stay at the club and that he can still perform to high levels.

Clarke-Harris made his long awaited comeback in Rotherham's 2-0 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday earlier this month, replacing Jon Taylor for a 22 minute cameo.

He also featured off the bench as a late substitute in the 3-2 loss at Wigan last weekend.

The former Coventry City striker has a one year contract extension option in his current deal but Warne is unsure about whether to activate that clause.

Warne said:

“If he performs to the level and proves that he wants to be here, then potentially a contract could be there.

“But if he doesn’t do that, I don’t think the club have an ethical responsibility to offer him a new deal.

“If Jono gets back to his best or shows he is getting back there, I would presume there would be something there for him.

"If he would accept it or not is another thing.

"Footballers are complex characters."
