After their disappointing season in the Championship, Rotherham United will be hoping to mount a League One promotion challenge next season.

Rotherham United were seemingly dead and buried before Christmas after a pathetic campaign wielded just five wins in forty six games.

The Millers picked up a measly 23 points over the course of the season, finishing 19 points adrift of second bottom and a staggering 28 points off safety.

After being named as the permanent manager, Paul Warne will be using the summer transfer window to build a squad capable of competing at the top end of the third tier next season.

He has already started the summer reshuffle by releasing six senior players and offering contracts to others.

Warne will be lining up summer transfer targets and he should have former loan star Farrend Rawson on his list.

Despite not making his debut for Derby County, Rawson has enjoyed three extremely successful loan spells in the Football League.

The 20-year-old has previously had two spells with Rotherham, where he has impressed at centre half with dominant and powerful displays at the heart of the defence.

Rawson also spent half a season on loan at Coventry City and was one of the standout performers as they were relegated from League One - his presence at the back helped shore up a very leaky defence.

The 6'4'' Derby defender is still down the pecking order at Pride Park and might consider another loan move to Rotherham or a permanent switch to the Millers.

Rawson would be an excellent addition at League One level and would contribute to a promotion chasing campaign.
