It is being reported by journalist Aidan McCartney that League One outfit Scunthorpe United are looking into the possibilities and are hopeful of securing a deal to take Rotherham United midfielder Richard Smallwood on a loan deal.
Scunthorpe have made a good start to this campaign and currently sit in 3rd place in the Sky Bet League One table, and manager Graham Alexander is looking to bring in more reinforcements to enable the Iron to mount a credible promotion push this season.
Despite being a fans favourite up at the New York Stadium it appears Smallwood has fell out of favour with manager Alan Stubbs and while he is guaranteed a place in the squad almost every week, he isn’t guaranteed a starting role meaning he may have to look elsewhere for first team football.
The former Middlesborough man is a ball winning midfield enforcer, he is excellent in the tackle and focuses his whole game on sniffing out danger, breaking up play and then distributing the ball to the more technically gifted players on the team.
Since signing for The Millers permanently in 2014 he has gone onto make 84 appearances for the club, scoring just the 2 goals.
What do you think Scunthorpe fans, would Smallwood be a good signing for your club? And what do you Millers fans think….is it a bad decision by Stubbs to let Smallwood go?…Or do you agree with the manager? Let us know your thoughts!
