According to The Sheffield Star, Rotherham United are set to announce some major news on the club’s future after the international break with the report speculating that it could be the unveiling of a new manager.

Rotherham United chairman Tony Stewart has confirmed that caretaker boss Paul Warne is a strong candidate to land the permanent role but he will be rivalled by “two or three” other options.

The Millers are all but relegated to League One and Stewart is planning an announcement (after the game against Sheffield Wednesday) in preparation for their campaign in the third tier for the 2017/18 season.

Speaking to The Sheffield Star, Stewart said:

“Warney has got to be a candidate.

“He’s got the culture of the club, he’s got the knowledge.

“He will be competing with two or three others we have in mind.

“What we will do is make a statement about the direction in which we will be moving forward in preparation for next season.

“The strategy will be revealed.”
