Rotherham United boss Paul Warne believes his former player and Cardiff City striker Kieffer Moore will be heading to the Premier League this summer, in an interview with Yorkshire Today.

28-year-old Moore, who is currently away with Wales at the European Championships, kickstarted his career at Rotherham on loan during the 2017/18 campaign and helped the Millers to gain promotion to the Championship via the playoffs, before moving permanently from Ipswich Town to Barnsley.

Since then, the forward has enjoyed spells at the Tykes, Wigan Athletic and his current club, with Moore scoring 20 goals for the Bluebirds last season. Despite impressing at the DW Stadium for Wigan during the 2019/20 campaign, their financial problems and subsequent administration meant he was available at a reduced price, and Cardiff took advantage of that by signing the 28-year-old on a three-year deal.

His former manager Warne saw his potential way back in 2017 and in an interview with local outlet Yorkshire Today, he reminisced about the Moore days at the New York Stadium, saying: "I remember one of our last games of the Championship season (in 2016-17) and he caused Woody (Richard Wood) no end of problems.

"In fairness, I have signed two players on the back of that – Michael Smith and Kieffer.

"Kieffer was one who broke the mould. His work ethic was brilliant, he wanted to improve and his attitude was spot on and had no arrogance in any way and did not have any sense of entitlement, which is quite unique with modern-day footballers."

Three years on from his spell in Yorkshire, Moore is one of the leading strikers in the Championship and scored Wales' equaliser against Switzerland in their opening game of this year's European Championships.

With this, the Rotherham manager now believes the Welshman is ready to make the step up to the top flight in this window - and many Premier League sides could be interested in acquiring his services if he continues to impress for Wales in the next few weeks.

"Kieffer is way past that line of proving people wrong now, he has done the whole circle," Warne continued.

"I have had probably six or seven managers phone me about him in the last few years saying: ‘Do you think he can do it again?’

"And I do and I honestly think he will go after this summer to the Premier League. Because you cannot tell me that he cannot do what (Christian) Benteke does for Crystal Palace in my opinion.

"I could imagine they (Cardiff) might get the odd offer or two which is too hard to turn down."

The Verdict:

With Paul Warne taking Moore under his wing in that loan spell at Rotherham, the 48-year-old knows the forward better than most people and this is a superb endorsement for a man who is likely to attract interest this summer.

Moore has the stature, strength and goalscoring prowess to play up front on his own, giving potential suitors different options going forward - and at 28 - is likely to be approaching the peak of his game. This makes a deal for top flight sides even more attractive and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him at a club like Burnley in the next year or two.

His attributes are perfect for Sean Dyche's side - but interested teams are likely to wait until after the Euros to make a move - just in case Moore picks up a long-term injury with his national side.
