Ronan Curtis has revealed that he hopes to get Portsmouth up to the Championship after extending his contract with the League One side yesterday.

The 23-year-old winger has been in form this season, netting 11 goals in 25 league appearances as he has played a pivotal role on the wing with some excellent goals and assists across the past six months.

Pompey have managed to get themselves into the playoff spots at a crucial stage of the season, and are just two points off of the automatic promotion places with two games in hand on Wycombe Wanderers.

Speaking to the club website, the Irish winger said: "I love this club to pieces and I couldn’t really wish for anything better, so I’m over the moon to sign a new contract.

"Kenny, Joe and the rest of the staff have gave me a chance by bringing me here and I wanted to repay them by staying loyal, while the fans are great.

"The group of lads we’ve got all get on like a house on fire and we all want to win promotion with Pompey.

"The supporters are right behind us and with the players and staff here, we’re confident that can happen.

"We weren’t playing to our standards at the start of the season, but now we’re picking up lots of points and want to make sure that continues.”

Portsmouth have seen their form reach new heights in the past two months, with a record-equaling eight games won in all competitions consecutively.

Their latest win came against Sunderland at Fratton Park on Saturday, as goals from Christian Burgess and James Bolton, both assisted by Curtis, helped Kenny Jackett's side to a 2-0 win.

Curtis signed for Portsmouth in 2018 from Derry City, and his form continues to get better and better as he has improved his technical ability game-by-game over the past 18 months.

The Verdict

Curtis has earned his new contract with Portsmouth, and his sole aim now is to help the side gain promotion after what has been an excellent few months for the club.

Portsmouth will be hoping to return to the heights that they were at ten years ago, and Curtis could play a big part in returning them to the former glory days if they can gain promotion this season.
