Former Leeds United midfielder Ronaldo Vieira has taken to Instagram to react to the Whites’ important 1-0 win at Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

The win saw Marcelo Bielsa’s side continue their recent up turn in form and momentum, with the Whites ensuring they would come away from the Riverside with a third successive 1-0 win in the Championship, following Mateusz Klich’s effort in first half injury time.

The Whites have managed to really recover their form following back-to-back defeats against Wigan Athletic and Nottingham Forest at the start of the month, which had shown signs of seeing Leeds potentially be at risk of dropping out of the automatic promotion places.

QUIZ: Are these Leeds United facts true or false?

However, since Bielsa’s side managed to earn an important point in a much-improved performance in a 1-1 draw at Brentford, they have managed to get their season back on track and are starting to show the sort of form they showed earlier in the campaign, which cemented them as real promotion contenders.

Bielsa’s side managed to continue their recent run of form, despite the fact that they were without the influential presence of Kalvin Phillips, who was missing through after suffering a knock in the win against Reading, and Ben White was moved into the holding midfield role in place of the midfielder.

Leeds really struggled for form during Phillips’ absence through suspension a few weeks ago, but the Whites were able to show that they could cope without the midfielder during their win against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.

It seems as though Phillips was still a keen observer of the game at the Riverside, with the midfielder posting his reaction to the victory on his Instagram account, following the Whites’ vital win which keeps them firmly in second place in the table.

Vieira was quick to offer his thoughts on Leeds’ win in reply to Phillips’ post, name-checking the 24-year-old along with goalscorer Klich and right-back Luke Ayling.

The verdict

Vieira was a reliable performer for the Whites during his spell with the club in midfield, and you can clearly see that the midfielder remains a key observer of Leeds’ performances despite the fact he is now playing in Serie A with Sampdoria.

Considering the amount of improvements that Bielsa has managed to make to some players at Elland Road during his time at the club, you can’t help but feel that the Argentine would have been able to turn Vieira into an excellent performer in the Championship were he to still be at the club.

However, Leeds are managing to do just fine at the moment with their current options, and even managed to produce another important victory in their hopes of securing automatic promotion without Phillips’ presence against Middlesbrough.

The Whites and Vieira himself will be hoping that the club’s recent upturn in form can be sustained during the last 11 games of the season, with Bielsa’s side looking in a really strong position once again to ensure they earn promotion this term.
