Romaine Sawyers is hoping that West Bromwich Albion can get back to winning ways in the Sky Bet Championship against Birmingham City tomorrow.

The Baggies have made a very promising start to the season under Slaven Bilic, but missed the chance to return to the top of the Championship table on Wednesday night, as they were held to a draw at Wigan Athletic.

It was a frustrating night for Albion - who are now second in the league table, behind Leeds United on goal difference - and the result brought an end to their six-match winning streak.

However, the point at the DW Stadium saw the Baggies extend their unbeaten run to ten matches and means they now have an eleven-point advantage over third-placed Fulham.

Sawyers - who has been an extremely important player for West Brom so far this season - is hoping that the team can get back to winning ways at St Andrew's this weekend.

Speaking to the Express & Star, the midfielder admitted that the team were well below their best against Wigan, but insisted that the team are capable of getting back to winning ways against the Blues.

He said: “For the fans it’s a local one but we just want to win as many games and collect as many points as possible.

“We wanted all three at Wigan. We got one, which turned out to be bonus because our standards where nowhere near where they have been this season.

“I wouldn’t say it was a wake-up call because I don’t think anyone was ever getting carried away. I’d say it’s a lesson. We know what we are capable of, we have showed it all season.”

The Verdict

It was frustrating night for West Brom against Wigan and I'm sure the players will all be disappointed that they couldn't pick up the win they needed to return to the top of the table.

With that said, it doesn't change the fact that they've been excellent so far this season and they are still in a very strong position in the league table.

The good news for the Baggies is that they've now got an opportunity to bounce straight back with a win against Birmingham at the weekend.
