The Steel City derby clash between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday failed to live up to expectations on Monday night, as both sides played out a 0-0 draw.

It was shaping up to a fiery affair between two bitter rivals both fighting for a promotion spot come the end of the season - United were looking to reclaim their spot in the automatic promotion places, whilst Wednesday were looking to snatch a last-gasp play-off finish under Steve Bruce.

But in a game which had very little chances, both sides failed to break each other down, and in the end, a point was probably a fair result.

Nevertheless, despite their lack of attacking threat, both the Blades and the Owls had to remain strong at the back and battle for a point - a sentiment that Wednesday winger Rolando Aarons shared on his Instagram page after the game.

The wide-man admitted that the game wasn't the greatest for a neutral, but paid tribute to the fans after the Owls battled for a point against the high-flying Blades.

The result at Hillsborough leaves Wednesday sitting six points off the play-off spots, with United sitting two points off Leeds United in 3rd position.

The Verdict

I fully agree with Aarons, it wasn't the greatest of games to watch as a neutral fan, but for both sides a point was a fair result.

It looked like both sides were too scared to lose, which is fully understandable with a lot still at stake for both teams.

I think Wednesday's hopes of a play-off finish are still on - they are only six points off with quite a generous run-in.
