Rochdale came narrowly close to scraping into the League One play-offs last season, falling a few points short of eventual play-off winners Millwall.
The ultimate ambition for Rochdale next season will be to obtain a top six finish after establishing themselves as regulars in the third tier of English football.
Keith Hill is doing a tremendous job in his second spell in charge of Rochdale and he should look to bring one player back from his first spell.
Chris O’Grady is available on a free transfer and he would be a shrewd addition for Rochdale.
The 31-year-old joined Rochdale on loan from Oldham Athletic in 2009 and netted 15 goals in 24 games that season before penning permanent terms.
O’Grady stayed at Spotland until joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2011, scoring a further 16 goals in that spell.
Since that move, O’Grady has been a journeyman of sorts in the Championship, featuring for Sheffield Wednesday, Barnsley, Brighton, Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest and most recently Burton Albion.
The veteran striker looks set to drop out of the Championship despite offering Burton a physical presence up front.
He might not offer the same amount of goals that he used to but the former England youth international is a tricky forward to defend against due to his strength and hold up play.
Rochdale should strike a deal to re-sign the former star on a free transfer as he could be the final piece in the jigsaw as Keith Hill looks to assemble a squad capable of winning promotion next season.
