Karl Robinson is currently presiding over Oxford United's pre-season tour of Ireland, but will he be a success at the U's?

After a career spent in the Non-League football, primarily in the North West of England and North Wales, Robinson set about doing his coaching badges after deciding coaching was the career he wanted to pursue.

In 2010, Pete Winkleman appointed Robinson managed of Milton Keynes Dons. After spending the last eight years in management, it is easy to forget that Robinson is still just 37 years of age.

After presiding over two top five finishes in his first two seasons at Milton Keynes Dons, Robinson was viewed as as a certified success at Milton Keynes early in his reign.

His crowning achievements being promotion to the Championship, and a 4-0 League cup win at Stadium: MK against giants Manchester United.

Following relegation from the Championship at the first attempt, and poor form on their return to League One, he was relieved of his duties after six years in charge.

Overall, Robinson could have concluded over the highs and lows of his spell at MK Dons, he did a good job at the club.

Managers after Robinson have proved the job at Stadium: MK is a difficult one, and the club were last season relegated to the basement division of the EFL.

A poor spell at Charlton followed, but Robinson arrived at the club under the difficult circumstances of the club's ownership, and the supporters vehement opposition to it.

Any manager would have struggled to keep on pitch matters running smoothly at the Valley, amidst the poisoned atmosphere that existed at the club.

Arriving at the Kassam Stadium the day he left the Charlton Athletic job, another new challenge lies ahead of Robinson.

Yellows fans will be hoping Robinson uses some of his contacts to bring in some names from his time at MK Dons.

Samir Carruthers is an ex-MK Dons man who has already joined up with the Yellows.

Robinson has a history of success in League One, so there are good signs for Oxford United if some players from his successful spell with MK Dons are recruited to the Kassam Stadium.

It is too early to say whether Robinson will be a success at Oxford United, he has a mixed record in management but a history of success in League One.

His knowledge of the level may prove highly useful to the Yellows, as they hope to earn promotion to the Championship.
