Coventry City will be aiming to make a positive start to the 2022/23 campaign in the Championship when they head to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on Sunday.

Having secured a 12th-place finish in this particular division earlier this year, the Sky Blues will be keen to reach new heights under the guidance of manager Mark Robins in the coming months.

Ahead of the new term, Coventry have managed to bolster their squad by making three signings in the summer transfer window.

Kasey Palmer has joined the Sky Blues on a permanent basis whilst Jonathan Panzo and Callum Doyle have sealed temporary moves from Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.

This aforementioned trio will be aiming to establish themselves as key members of Coventry’s squad during the opening stages of the season.

Here, we have decided to take a look at the latest Coventry news headlines that you might have missed…

Robins makes Callum O’Hare admission following Burnley transfer interest

Robins has admitted that he is delighted by the fact that Callum O’Hare will not be joining Burnley this summer.

A report from Coventry Live revealed that a move involving the attacking midfielder and the Clarets has collapsed due to a failure to agree terms.

Speaking to Coventry Live about this update, Robins said: “Fantastic news!

“I said before he is a fans’ favourite but he’s also a favourite in the dressing room and he’s a really good player.

“The players love him, the staff love him – he’s just an infectious character and it’s the energy you get from him, and his energy being around is just second to none.”

Palmer and Martyn Waghorn injury updates emerge ahead of Sunderland game

Robins has confirmed that Palmer and Martyn Waghorn have not picked up serious injuries and thus could both be in line to feature against Sunderland this weekend.

Both players sustained knocks in the Sky Blues’ recent pre-season friendly with Walsall.

Speaking to the club’s official website about this duo, Robins said: “Martyn is fine.

“He is getting better and he feels okay.

“It was precautionary [that he was left out].

“He did not train on Friday so he was always going to be left out on Saturday.

“He was at The Sky Blue Lodge on Saturday morning and he will be in again on Monday morning, maybe to train, we’ll just have to wait and see.

“Likewise, Kasey will not be too long.

“It will be days rather than weeks until he is ready.

“We will see.”
