Sheffield Wednesday have had a busy summer preparing for the upcoming League One season.

The Owls will be aiming to earn promotion to the Championship this campaign having only narrowly missed out on the achievement last May.

A 4th place finish in the table earned the team a play-off place, but semi-final defeat to Sunderland secured their status in the third tier for another year.

Darren Moore will be hoping his side can go one better over the next 12 months in order to secure promotion.

Here are all the latest Wednesday news headlines that you may have missed…

Haydon Roberts race ends

Sheffield Wednesday were linked with the signing of Roberts from Brighton & Hove Albion.

But the 20-year old has opted to join third tier rivals Derby County on a season long loan instead.

The Brighton-born player spent the 2020-21 season on loan with Rochdale, where he played 26 league games.

But he remained at the Premier League outfit for the most recent campaign, where he was unable to break into the first team squad.

Mallik Wilks update

Wednesday remain keen on signing the Hull City player despite negotiations with the Tigers not going to plan.

The two clubs were unable to come to an agreement over a transfer deal to sign the 23-year old.

Wilks has not featured heavily since the arrival of Shota Arveladze but is set to fight for his place at the MKM Stadium going into the new season.

However, Wednesday remain interested in securing a deal for the player who only has 12 months left on his current contract at Hull.

More signings incoming

Moore is hopeful of adding further to his first team squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the summer.

Seven new players have already arrived at Hillsborough, with the new campaign set to get underway in the coming weeks.

The Owls are set to jet off to Portugal as part of their pre-season plans, with the club still looking to further strengthen their squad in time for the opening game of the season against Portsmouth on July 30.
