Roberto Di Matteo fighting to save his job at Aston Villa

Published

on

Roberto Di Matteo is facing a fight to keep his job at Aston Villa, as the club hierarchy grows increasingly impatient by their stuttering start to the season, according to the Guardian.

Although in Aston Villa’s most recent match, they were able to rescue a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United, it has offered very little respite for Roberto Di Matteo.

A start to the season that has only seen a single victory in nine games has put the Italian manager under increasing amounts of pressure, as Aston Villa sit in 17th position in the Sky Bet Championship.

An ominous sign for Di Matteo has been the reports over the past week that Steve Bruce has been linked with taking over at Aston Villa, despite Di Matteo remaining in the managerial position.

It has been reported that Aston Villa’s ambitious owner Tony Xia is running out of time and patience with Di Matteo – with the Italian manager having only Aston Villa’s next two games away at Barnsley and Preston North End to save his job.

Aston Villa fans, how do you feel about news? Would you be disappointed to see Di Matteo leave so early into the season? Is a managerial change, the change that Aston Villa needs? If Di Matteo was to leave, who would you like to see come in to replace him? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
