Controversial pundit Robbie Savage is not one for making friends under usual circumstances, but he's waded into the debate over foreign coaches in the Championship with an opinion to delight Leeds' fans.

Talksport journalist Ian Abrahams suggested last week that a promotion for Norwich City or Leeds United would be bad for the English game as both are coached by non-English managers, Marcelo Bielsa and Daniel Farke.

Speaking on 606 this weekend, via HITC, Savage labelled those comments as idiotic and offered his own opinion on a possible promotion for Leeds, saying: "I've heard a few idiotic comments from people saying its bad for English football that Norwich and Leeds are top two in the Championship."

"There's nothing more I'd like to see than Leeds United back in the Premier League."

The former Leicester City midfielder isn't the only player to lash out at the reporter's opinion. Former Newcastle United and Norwich City striker Darren Huckerby labelled the comments 'ridiculous', tweeting that he should 'have a word with himself'.

Oddly, Abrahams also stated that Farke or Bielsa obtaining a place in the Premier League would deny English managers the chance, naming Welshman Tony Pulis as one manager who would suffer!

The Verdict

It seems that Abrahams' comments have done exactly what they were intended to do, shine a light on himself and create traffic and debate for him and his outlets.

Surely, he can't be serious? Leeds have a wealth of talented English players in their side, surely those being promoted is as important as having an English manager?

The managers who deserve a Premier League chance are the ones who earn it, regardless of where they come from. I agree with Robbie Savage and there's few occasions I get to write that sentence.
