Robbie Gotts gives a nod to Leeds United fanbase as Lincoln City spell gathers momentum

Lincoln City got the better of Manchester City last night in the Papa John’s Trophy, with Michael Appleton’s side coming out of the penalty shootout on top after a 1-1 draw.
Leeds United loanee, Robbie Gotts, was earning his third consecutive starts for the Imps, playing in Appleton’s midfield and completing 90 minutes.
The 21-year-old struck in the penalty shootout too, helping the Imps to a 4-3 win.
Quiz: Did these 17 Lincoln City players ever actually score a league goal for the club?
Post-match, Gotts was nominated for the club’s in-house Man of the Match award, which he won with 71.5% of the vote.
The outing was probably the midfielder’s best since arriving at Sincil Bank, but after taking to Twitter, Gotts noted how the support of the Leeds fans might have got him over the line:
Good to get more minutes in the tank last night, fair to say I had the backing of @LUFC fans on the vote 👀😉 https://t.co/hmxPatikEI

Next up for Lincoln is a return to League One action over the weekend.
Appleton’s side travel to Accrington Stanley looking to build on their early season form that’s led them to fifth in the table and only three points off current leaders, Peterborough United.
The Verdict
Leeds fans are often the ones that flock to things like this on Twitter, which has obviously won Gotts the vote by a big margin.
However, that shouldn’t overshadow the fact that he’s looking at home in the Lincoln side now and will be a really important player for Appleton moving forwards.
Lincoln are well placed for a promotion push this season, but it’s important they use their full squad given the ferocity of their schedule.
Gotts might not start every week, but he’s a player the Imps will need to stay sharp.
