Ipswich Town goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky is still wanted by his former manager Jim Goodwin at Aberdeen this summer - but a stumbling block has emerged in any potential deal for the Czech Republic man.

Goodwin, who coached Hladky at St. Mirren before he made the move to Salford City in the summer of 2020, is keen on bringing the stopper back north of the border to the Scottish Premiership.

However, he is only exploring a potential free transfer deal for the Dons - and that is something that Kieran McKenna and the Tractor Boys are not willing to agree to.

Per Football Scotland, Ipswich will not let the 31-year-old depart Portman Road unless they get some semblance of a transfer fee back, and they are believed to be looking for around £100,000 for Hladky's services.

Hladky is believed according to the aforementioned report to fancy a return to Scottish football, having fallen out of favour at Ipswich in his debut season.

He signed for the Suffolk outfit from Salford City last summer, having won the Ammies' Supporters Player of the Year award in his one and only campaign in League Two, but only played 12 matches in League One for Ipswich, with Christian Walton ousting him as the first-choice of McKenna.

The Verdict

Hladky is quite clearly a very talented goalkeeper, but Ipswich bringing another one in to compete with him in the form of Walton has not worked out in his favour.

A player of Hladky's ability should be playing week in, week out, so it's no surprise that he is seeking regular game-time elsewhere.

When it comes to Aberdeen's stance though, they should probably just pay the small six-figure sum that Ipswich want.

The Dons have just landed a windfall from Liverpool for Calvin Ramsay, so it's a transfer that they can afford if they are desperate for it.
